University of Lille

The USTL University (University of Lille 1) was created in 1562 and moved to a new campus in 1971. The Lille1 University is a State University and has over 18,000 students and 2,200 researchers, professors and associate professors, including 950 PhD students (45% are International). With its numerous partnerships, the Lille1 University (Faculties, large organisations, research and business clusters, local authorities...) is a top-flight centre for science and technology, economics and management, both at national and international level (state key laboratories).

The Montaigne Institute has just been ranked second in the French university league tables, in the category of publications by A+ laboratories in the field of pure science. The laboratory research activities have truly international scope that is measured via the setting up of 12 Joint European or International laboratories, active participation in numerous European and international projects. The University’s international policy includes hosting 150 visiting scholars every year from around thirty different countries.
